LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WOLO)– A Columbia man is facing murder charges after investigators say he is accused of killing his mother last December.

According to an arrest warrant, 37-year-old Terry Lee Self Jr. is accused of murdering his mother, Regina Arroyo.

Investigators say Arroyo’s body was found in the Edisto River by a canoeist on December 3, 2023.

“Investigators confirmed that the suspect and his mother were at the suspect’s home and left together after an argument,” said Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon.

Lexington County investigators found evidence that Self tied Arroyo with a ligature and dumped her body in the river.

Self is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County on an unrelated charge.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department filed charges against him on Monday and brought him before a justice of the peace, who denied him bail.

“Investigators have been working on this case for seven months trying to locate the person responsible for Ms. Arroyo’s death,” said Sheriff Koon.
