Millcreek resident concerned after chicken allegedly shot in her neighborhood Powhatan officials search for ‘armed and dangerous’ suspect

STAMFORD – A 42-year-old North Carolina man groped a 14-year-old girl and tried to force her to perform sex acts on him at a party in Norwalk, according to an arrest warrant for him.

Norwalk Police Detective Brian Barrett wrote in the arrest warrant that the victim’s family contacted police in August 2023, two years after the alleged incident.

The victim told investigators she was at a family party in July 2021 when Mejia, who was known to the victim, cornered her in a bedroom, the warrant states. Mejia then “put his hands down her pants” and attempted to “force” her to perform a sexual act, according to the warrant.

Mejia then warned the victim “not to tell anyone or he would go to jail,” Barrett wrote in the arrest warrant.

“He added that if he goes to prison, his children will grow up without a father, just like them,” Barrett wrote in the arrest warrant.

When confronted with the allegations, Mejia admitted that he and the 14-year-old were in the room together, but told a different story, the warrant states. He claimed he was passed out on the bed and when he woke up, the minor was “on top of him,” Barrett wrote. He claimed the minor attacked him, not the other way around, the warrant states.

In the same conversation, recorded on a cell phone, Mejia admitted that he carried “a great deal of guilt” over the incident. “It was completely inappropriate,” he said, according to the arrest warrant.

Norwalk police said they obtained an arrest warrant for Mejia after a months-long investigation. Mejia, who was arraigned on June 26, was released on $500,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in state Supreme Court in Stamford on July 10.
