Illinois is full of amazing museums that are full of interactivity and fun, but this one museum in Springfield brings triumph and tragedy to life and does more than anything else to tell visitors a story.

I’m a huge history buff. I inherited history from my grandfather and we could talk about it for hours. In every museum we visited together, we got excited about the smallest things. One of them was literally a plate from the Titanic, haha.

Since moving here, everyone I’ve talked to talks about the museums in Chicago. I decided to visit the ones in the Windy City, but I had this deep need to take a trip to Springfield to see Abe Lincoln’s house and the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. And maybe it’s just my imagination, but Lincoln beats the museums in Chicago by a mile!

I mean it when I tell you that here you will be taken through every stage of Abe Lincoln’s life. There are theaters where you can watch performances, a walk-through museum dedicated to his childhood, and another walk-through museum dedicated to his presidency. The family even sits right outside the door to greet you as you enter the White House!

I love to read and immerse myself in everything there, so I didn’t take as many photos as I would have liked. But I learned so many things about this guy that I didn’t know before. I had no idea he taught himself to read and do math, no idea he had to watch two of his children die, and no idea how many times he lost elections before he became President of the United States.

Hearing and witnessing the ups and downs of this family was enough to move me a little. I also didn’t know that they had made a mold of his face while he was in office. That was done shortly before he was murdered.

Yes, it was so inspiring to see these exhibits. They bring to life the history we learned in school. But the coolest part was that we got to explore his house in Springfield. The only house he ever owned in his life and lived in before moving to Washington DC. Check it out!

You could even go inside and explore the house, which was probably one of the coolest things I’ve ever experienced. When I was in the special room where he was asked if he would run for president, I got chills down my spine.

If you want to get out and explore the area, I highly recommend this place. It is a moving and entertaining experience that I think many should enjoy.
