I have several dresses in my summer wardrobe, but my newest addition to my closet is the coolest. Columbia’s Freezer III dress is part of the brand’s PFG (Performance Fishing Gear) line, and as the name suggests, it’s designed to keep you cool during the sweltering summer months—something I can’t say about any of my other dresses. At first glance, this performance dress and Amazon bestseller doesn’t look like much, but looks can be deceiving. In fact, it does what it promises, and keeps me cool even in nearly 27 degrees. After wearing this cooling dress indoors and outdoors for four days, I’m already considering buying the maxi version. Here’s why.

Made from polyester and spandex jersey, this Amazon bestseller features cooling and sweat-wicking technology to keep you dry and comfortable all day long. The dress also has UPF 50 and is available in a range of colours and sizes.

Stretchy, lightweight and breathable, the Columbia Freezer III dress is made from a polyester and spandex jersey blend that feels like a typical swimsuit material. The fabric is made with the brand’s Omni-Freeze technology, which provides a cooling effect. Specially shaped, flat yarns are woven together, which draws heat away from the body. I knew this dress was the one when I was able to get through a 30-minute Peloton cycling class comfortably and dry. Although the dress doesn’t have built-in shorts, you can easily layer a pair of spandex cycling shorts over it or slip on breathable boxer briefs for extra coverage.

Plus, the dress has sweat-wicking properties thanks to the brand’s Omni-Wick technology, which draws moisture to the surface of the fabric to keep you dry. This means you no longer have to worry about visible sweat stains. I also wore the dress on a nature walk when temperatures were just below 27 degrees and was impressed with how well it kept me cool during my walk. Although I applied plenty of sunscreen and bug spray before heading out, it’s an added bonus that the dress also features Columbia’s Omni-Shade technology, which protects your body from the sun by blocking UVA and UVB rays.

It is flattering and versatile

Technically, the Columbia Freezer III Dress is marketed for fishing, but I’ve also worn this dress when working from home and can see it for many other occasions like BBQs and beach days, especially in high temperatures. The dress is machine washable (wash cold and tumble dry low) and wrinkle resistant, making it an ideal choice for travel, which is great if you have to go somewhere right after the plane and don’t want to worry about changing your outfit.

Plus, I’m 5’5″ and the dress hits just a few inches above my knee, so I don’t have to worry about it riding up. The pull-on style also makes it easy to get on and off. Plus, it comes in a variety of colors and sizes XS to 3X.

There’s not much to complain about with this dress. It looks good, is comfortable to wear and most importantly it keeps you cool, but I wish it had pockets and it would be nice if the underwear wasn’t so visible.

The Columbia Freezer III dress does what the other dresses in my closet can’t: it keeps me cool and dry, even when it’s scorching hot outside. It’s equal parts flattering and practical, and something I’m sure I’ll be reaching for again and again this summer. And now it’s on sale!
