ABILENE – The anticipation for the upcoming ACU women’s soccer season reaches new heights with the release of the 2024 schedule. Head Coach Stephen Salaswho enters his second season with the Wildcats, is preparing for an exciting schedule that culminates in hosting the Western Athletic Conference Tournament at Elmer Gray Stadium.

Teams on the schedule include Texas State, Mississippi State and Oral Roberts.

“We are ready to compete for the conference championship, especially with the conference tournament being held at ACU in November,” Salas said. “This schedule is comprised of teams and atmospheres that will challenge us and make us better in pursuit of our ultimate goal.”

The Wildcats open with two exhibition games on August 9 and 11. The first exhibition game is at home against Texas State at 7 p.m. An away game follows shortly thereafter, with the second exhibition game being played in Portales, NM against the University of New Mexico.

ACU debuts at Elmer Gray Stadium on August 17, hosting UTEP. After that, they have two more home games, Lamar on August 22 and Mississippi Valley State on August 25, which is close behind.

After Mississippi Valley, the Wildcats will embark on a five-game road trip. The trip begins in Corpus Christi on August 29th to face Texas A&M Corpus Christi. They will then travel to Natchitoches, Louisiana to face Northwestern State on September 1st.

The Wildcats next travel to Houston, with ACU playing Prairie View A&M on September 5, followed by Houston Christian on September 8.

The Wildcats will finish their run in the South on September 12 in Starkville, Mississippi, against Power Five school Mississippi State.

After a three-week trip, ACU is back in Elmer Gray on September 15th to host the University of North Texas for the first time since 2021. After one highly anticipated game comes another. ACU hosts Oral Roberts University on September 9th.

To conclude their non-league play, the Wildcats will travel to San Antonio on September 22 to face the UTSA Roadrunners.

Western Athletic Conference play begins September 28, with ACU hosting Seattle U.

The Wildcats travel west for three games in three different states. In Arizona, ACU begins against WAC powerhouse Grand Canyon. The Purple and White head to the sunny coast of California and play California Baptist on October 6th. Then, to conclude their trip west, they visit the mountains of Utah and take on Utah Valley on October 12th.

ACU remains on the Utah bandwagon and hosts two conference games with the other two Utah schools in the WAC. The game against Southern Utah is on October 17th, followed by a game against Utah Tech on October 20th.

The final conference game will be against Tarleton State in Stephenville on October 26. After their trip, the Wildcats look forward to the WAC tournament on their home turf.

This is the second time in program history that ACU has secured the role of hosting the WAC Tournament in Elmer Gray, which is scheduled to begin on Nov. 3. The first time the WAC Tournament was held in Big Country was in 2021, ACU’s first year in the WAC after leaving the Southland Conference.

The Wildcats have only appeared in the NCAA Division I tournament once in 2018 after winning the Southland Conference tournament that season.

Salas has been eagerly awaiting the start of the season and is excited to see how his new signings and returning players will handle the schedule.

“I’m excited for this team with experienced leadership and a number of returning players coming back for a special year,” Salas said. “We are focused and ready to execute on our growth from last year as a staff and team on and off the field.”

The programming team invites fans, alumni and supporters to mark their calendars and join them in cheering on the Wildcats as they strive for success in the 2024 season. More details about the upcoming season can be found here.
