The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District has released data for the July 4, 2024 holiday, showing a total of 317 calls.

According to the district, 1,104 emergency calls were received by the dispatch center, including 92 calls for external fires, 16 for vegetation fires, 13 for building fires and 128 for medical care. In addition, 60 additional emergency calls were received and eight additional calls for fire services were received.

Compared to 2023, emergency calls for outdoor and building fires have almost doubled. Emergency calls for rescue services, vegetation and other issues have also increased.

According to the Contra Costa County Fire Department, the morning began with a vegetation fire in Pittsburg on Leland that was confirmed to have been started by fireworks at 10:30 a.m. The area was approximately 10 acres.

In the City of AntiochA vegetation fire is causing evacuations after a field caught fire in the 2700 block of Deer Valley Road. The fire spread up a hill toward homes on Lotus Ct. In City of Martinez, They fought a 3-acre vegetation fire.

There have been at least three known cases of fireworks injuries in Contra Costa County. One of these occurred around 8:00 p.m. in San Pablo because of a hand injury caused by fireworks, while around 10:30 p.m. someone in the City of Oakley suffered a head injury after setting off fireworks. The next day, a firework exploded in a person’s hand in the city center Antioch.

CONFIRE published an update on the Fire on Kimball Island Initially, it was reported that the fire may have been caused by a permitted fireworks display in Antioch, but upon further investigation, it was said that it was not related.

The next day, drone footage shows the fire in Antioch, which led to the evacuation of six homes.
