Qatar’s high summer temperatures provide residents and visitors with the opportunity to spend their holidays exploring the city’s leading air-conditioned outdoor destinations. “Don’t let the temperatures stop you from enjoying outdoor activities,” said Visit Qatar, the official website of Qatar Tourism, on its social media channels. First up is West Walk, an innovative district in Al Waab that promises a modern living, working and leisure experience with its promenades and offers a pleasant climate all year round. Although West Walk is popular during the cold months, it also attracts many visitors during this period thanks to its air-conditioned outdoor area. Another popular spot is Al Hazm, described as “Qatar’s most luxurious and extravagant destination,” offering guests a unique experience: from luxury fashion houses to lavishly decorated restaurants and cafes, in addition to its architectural splendor. Handcrafted Tuscan marble adorns its corridors and interior walls, creating an elegant and grand atmosphere. Visitors can also stroll through Al Hazm’s central gardens, sit in the shade or climb a small hill overlooking the fountains and flower garden. Al Hazm also features a state-of-the-art outdoor cooling system and heat-absorbing marble floors, making it comfortable all year round. In addition to traditional luxury shopping, Galeries Lafayette at 21 High Street in Katara – the Cultural Village – offers a unique outdoor destination that combines retail and open-air atmosphere. Katara itself hosts numerous cultural events and activities that attract large numbers of visitors to the area. With its diverse mix of fashion, jewelry, accessories, art, restaurants and cafes, 21 High Street offers a vibrant experience for all. Place Vendome in Lusail is home to more than 560 retail outlets, including a luxury wing dedicated to top designer brands, and features a canal that comes directly from the sea, creating a stunning open plaza with cafes and restaurants overlooking the water. The centre is a major attraction for residents and visitors, offering a combination of entertainment and shopping. Souq Waqif, with its labyrinthine alleyways, old mud-brick buildings and vibrant street life, transports visitors back in time and is a popular destination all year round. Shoppers can find Middle Eastern wares, handicrafts and unique souvenirs at Souq Waqif. Live music, art and cultural shows add to the atmosphere and make it a truly immersive experience. One learns that these five destinations offer a diverse range of experiences while ensuring a pleasant outdoor environment despite the summer heat.
