The production brings the untold love story of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln to life and offers a new perspective on one of America’s most beloved historical figures.

Written by Terrence L. Cranert, choreographed by Maria Del Bagno and musically directed by Steven Applegate, The Lincolns of Springfield explores the enduring bond between Abraham and Mary, highlighting their trials, triumphs and love.

Critics praised the production for its soulful portrayal and historical authenticity. The Illinois Times wrote, “Get ready for songs that will fill your heart, stir your soul and keep you hooked. I had goosebumps several times.”

The show’s report praises it as “an incredible achievement, presenting a fresh portrait of Mary Todd Lincoln and her position not only as Abraham Lincoln’s soul mate, but also as his greatest supporter and most admired adviser.”

“We are excited to bring this unique story to the stage and showcase the human side of Abraham and Mary Lincoln. Their love and resilience continue to inspire us, and we believe audiences will find a deep connection to their story,” said Cranert, who also serves as director of the show.

Garrett Deagon plays Abraham Lincoln and embodies Lincoln’s gait and face. Deagon was originally supposed to play the young Lincoln in an early production of the play, but he has grown up in this role.

Samantha Craton explores Mary Todd Lincoln’s devotion and inner conflicts, as her character transforms from an ambitious Southern belle to a woman burdened by the loss of two children and then her husband.

Lacey Mason, as Elizabeth Keckley, Mrs. Lincoln’s confidante, honors Keckley’s unique status in the family and the White House. Acclaimed bass-baritone Michal Dawson Connor plays William Henry Johnson.

Several cast members, notably Deagon and Dawson Connor, have accompanied the production throughout its decades of development, following “The Lincolns of Springfield” from the idea to the present.
