Officers initially responded to an accident in the 5700 block of Nine Mile Road around 1:15 a.m. Friday. At the scene, officers found Howquana Kara Bugg, 25, of Henrico, and a toddler in the street.

The couple was hit by a car, police said.

According to police, the investigation revealed that Bugg was walking eastbound on Nine Mile Road against the flow of traffic when she was struck. The driver of the vehicle involved fled the scene.

The vehicle is probably a silver sedan or coupe, police said.

Bugg and the baby were taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. Bugg died of her injuries on Tuesday.
