An investigation is underway following a shooting in Carencro involving a deputy sheriff. In the shooting, a suspect was shot while authorities attempted to execute an arrest warrant.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at approximately 7:45 p.m. in the 400 block of Wagon Trail Road in Carencro.

News 15 reports that the deceased’s name is Tony Pollard. He was being investigated for a series of violent crimes that occurred over the past few days.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office said Pollard is wanted in connection with a July 4 armed robbery in which two guns were stolen. Since then, he has also been named as a suspect in at least two other cases involving guns.

When officers arrived on scene to execute the arrest warrant, Pollard refused to comply with officers’ orders and “behaved in a threatening manner, whereupon officers responded with deadly force.”

Pollard was pronounced dead at the scene. Louisiana State Police said none of the officers were injured in the incident.
