Middle school counselor Luisa Melchionne is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student in Norwalk.

NORWALK, Connecticut (WTNH) – A former Norwalk Public Schools counselor is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a middle school student, Norwalk police said Thursday.

An investigation was launched when police received a complaint about the relationship on April 30.

Police said they found that Luisa Melchionne, a school counselor at Nathan Hale Middle School, had a “sexual relationship” with a male student.

The 47-year-old New Canaan resident was charged with second-degree sexual assault and two counts of endangering a minor.

She was held on $500,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on July 11.

According to police, Melchionne is no longer employed by the school district.

A representative from Norwalk Public Schools issued the following statement to News 8 on Thursday:

The safety of our students is our top priority. Luisa Melchionne has not been employed by Norwalk Public Schools since June 14. Norwalk Public Schools is cooperating with the Norwalk Police Department in the investigation and has no further comment.
