Springfield’s Victory Mission builds new men’s home after receiving state funding Increase in car thefts part of a nationwide trend

OTHELLO – The American Red Cross is hosting a blood drive in Othello on July 23, where donors have the chance to save a life and receive a free movie ticket.

According to Red Cross spokeswoman Betsy Robertson, anyone who donates blood or platelets to the Red Cross in July will receive a free movie ticket via email from Fandango that can be redeemed at the AMC Classic Theater in Kennewick, among other locations. The ticket giveaway is in partnership with Universal Pictures to promote their new film “Twisters,” but the ticket is valid for any movie if redeemed before the end of the year, Robertson said.

In addition, each donor will automatically be entered into a drawing in July to win a 2025 Ram 1500 Bighorn pickup, Robertson said.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Othello Church of the Nazarene, 835 S. 10th Ave. Robertson said both blood plasma and platelets are needed, particularly type O blood.

“We continue to see a strained blood supply and are constantly working to keep it stable,” Robertson said. “During the summer, the number of regular donors drops, and summer is known to be a time when there are more car accidents, particularly among teen drivers. More than a quarter of all blood products used are needed for these trauma and critical care cases.”
