RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – The annual back-to-school event Enrichment of Richmond Day is taking place Saturday. 8News spoke with event organizers to learn more about what attendees can expect.

The Back to School Enrichment of Richmond Day event will be held on Saturday, July 13 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Broad Rock Park (4802 Warwick Road) and will feature free school supplies and food and guest speakers.

Anthony Harris, founder of the Anthony Harris Foundation, and Daryl Harris, founder of The Rock Project, have teamed up to create this annual event for the community.

Daryl Harris told 8News how his coaches and mentors supported him growing up and that’s why it’s important to him as a Richmond native to give back to the community.

“I feel like I should do the same thing to try to save one (child). You know, if I can’t save them all, I feel like I can save many because people saved my life, so I’m trying to save the lives of the rest of the kids out here,” Daryl Harris said. “And have fun.”

This is the fourth year the event has been held and Anthony Harris told 8News their goal is to continue to grow the event through new partnerships and people donating money for schools, food or their time to help with the event.

“So the goal is to continue to grow it, to continue to get people involved and to make it not just a day event, but to push the development towards a weekend event,” said Anthony Harris.
