It’s time to start preparing for the 2024 Syracuse Orange football season. We’re going through the roster to take a closer look at each Syracuse player as we get to know many new faces to usher in the Fran Brown era.

Next comes…

Surname: Max Runyon

Position: Close finish

Year: Redshirt Junior

Height: 1.83m

Weight: 228 pounds.

Hometown: Saddle River, New Jersey

Secondary school: St. Joseph’s Regional High School/Lafayette

Statistics for 2023: N/A (no jersey all year round)

Forecasts for 2024: Given Syracuse’s current depth at the tight end position, Runyon will likely serve as a backup tight end. He hasn’t had much time to prove himself as a pass catcher, but many of his snaps show he has potential as a blocker. Perhaps he’ll find a spot as a pseudo-fullback or on special teams, but given the Orange’s heavy rotation at the position, Runyon’s role in 2024 likely won’t extend much beyond that.

How did he get here?: Runyon was one of eight New Jersey players who either signed, wanted to sign or verbally committed in 2019. He committed to Lafayette at the time but did not play a single game with the program. He joined the Orange in the summer of 2023.

What do the recruitment sites say?: No reviews on any of the major websites
