With nine broken vertebrae, a dislocated spine, 11 broken ribs, a broken scapula, a punctured lung, a lacerated kidney, and no sensation below his waist, doctors gave Robert MacDonald a 5% chance of ever walking again. Two years later, he completed a half marathon and three years later he completed his first full marathon.
The Toronto Rahab Foundation helped give MacDonald a second chance and three years later, he set out to complete a marathon and give back. Soon a dynamic community had rallied around his mantra and hundreds would challenge themselves to do the same, joining MacDonald in crossing the finish line at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon in 2015. This is where Team “I Will” began.”
FAST FORWARD TO 2021 and we are well on our way to becoming Toronto’s fastest growing charity. And in just five years we have accomplished our original fundraising goal of $500,000. Now aims to reach $1 Million in support of our sole beneficiary, the Toronto Rehab Foundation.
Founded in 2015, Team “I Will” is a community of inspiring, influential and… people who have come together to break barriers, provide support through inspiration, and raise funds for the Tororonto Rehab Foundation, the largest rehabilitation hospital in the Canada. Funds raised through flagship events like gala, Boot Camp and the SCOTIABANK TORONTO WATERFRONT MARATHON help those in need of motivation and assistance through their recovery.
Just because we hit our $500K goal does not mean we are stopping there… support Team “I Will” to reach our next goal of $1 Million.
Whether it’s a mental or physical feat, team members will encourage and inspire each other to push past hinderance and overcome obstacles. Through these experiences Team “I Will” members have built meaningful, lasting friendships. Team “I Will” ensures you will stay active; weather training to get in shape, running a marathon, triathlon or working toward a personal best. The entire team is behind you while you achieve your goal!
While COVID-19 has changed everyone’s plans, including our own, we continue to keep our focus on the patients of Toronto Rehab Foundation’s and doing what we can to support them. This may look slightly different considering the current global situation but we have the “I Will” mentality, meaning that we will always find a way to adjust, adapt and accomplish.
Team “I Will” brings the reward of knowing that you are helping others who have been given a second chance, through the Toronto Rehab Foundation.
